Choosing Between Mesh and Solid Pool Covers
What Type of Cover is Best for My Pool?
Mesh Safety Covers
- Lightweight: Easy to take on and off.
- Drainage: Allows rain and snow to melt through, preventing water pooling.
- Durability: High-strength fabric filters out debris.
- Opening: Mesh covered pools usually need some cleanup to open in the spring.
Solid Safety Covers
- Total Blockage: Zero sunlight means zero algae growth.
- Cleanest Opening: Your pool stays "pool-party ready" under the cover.
- Best For: Maximum protection and the easiest Spring opening.
- Price: Solid covers cost more than mesh covers and require a cover pump.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a safety cover actually support weight?
Yes. That is why they are called "Safety" covers. When installed correctly, they are ASTM-rated to support the weight of a child, a pet, or even an adult in an emergency. However, they aren't trampolines—you should never walk on them unless necessary.
When is the best time to order a new cover?
Late summer or very early fall. Since these are custom-measured and manufactured for your specific pool, the lead times can get long once the "closing rush" starts in October. Ordering early ensures you have it before the leaves start falling.
Do I need a cover pump?
If you choose a Mesh Cover, no. Water drains through the mesh into the pool. If you choose a Solid Cover, yes. You will need a pump to remove standing water from the top of the cover to prevent it from getting too heavy and damaging the springs.
How long do these covers typically last?
With proper care and by keeping your winter chemicals balanced, a high-quality safety cover should last between 10 to 15 years. We recommend checking your springs and anchors every season to make sure everything is still tight.
Will the anchors trip people in the summer?
No. We use recessed brass anchors that screw down flush with your deck. When the cover is off, the anchors are practically invisible and safe to walk over with bare feet.
