Common Questions About Pool Renovation
Get the Answers Before You Make a Decision
-
Renovation costs vary widely depending on the scope of work:
Resurfacing only (30x15 pool):
• White plaster (basic): ~$10,000
• Quartz (mid-grade): ~$16,000
• Pebble (high-end): ~$22,000
• Polished (ultra-high-end): ~$40,000
Full remodel (tile, coping, plaster): $20,000–$30,000 on the low end, up to $200,000+ for large projects with high-end finishes and full decking replacement.
Equipment upgrades: $2,000–$10,000
Spa additions: Priced case by case. Adding a spa as part of an existing re-plumb and equipment project is significantly more affordable than a standalone spa addition.
-
A tile, coping, and plaster renovation typically takes about 2 weeks. A large project involving decking, plumbing, tile, coping, and plaster is closer to 8–12 weeks — similar to a new pool build. All renovation work is performed with the pool empty of water.
-
Signs your pool likely needs renovation: rough plaster, visible cracks, a hollow sound when you tap the coping, exposed concrete inside the pool, rust bleeding through the surface, heavy staining, persistent leaks, or missing tile.
Repairs may be sufficient for: light staining (treated with acid spot treatments or acid washing), above-ground plumbing repairs, and single equipment replacements. When you're seeing multiple issues — loose or missing coping, plaster problems throughout, consistent tile loss — it's usually more cost-effective to renovate than repair piece by piece.
-
Every renovation includes a full start-up procedure in accordance with National Plasterers Council (NPC) guidelines. This is the proper way to cure and start a newly plastered pool — many companies skip this step and simply fill the pool and hand over the keys. We don't. Popular upgrades customers add during renovation: pressure testing, light replacement, filter pad replumb, salt water chlorine generator installation, and equipment upgrades.
